Today is Grandma Nell’s 77th birthday!  I was supposed to go down to go shopping with her and Laurie, as I do every year on Mom’s birthday.  When I left our house, it was raining and only about 26 degrees, but I left anyway.  As I was heading out of Pawnee, my car began to slide a little, so I decided that I needed to head back home.  Before I could get turned around, I was close enough to see Interstate 55, and the cars and trucks were moving very slow.  I realized then that I should not even try to keep going, so I turned around.  I hate to miss my day with Mom, but she wanted me to go back home too.  Yesterday was the 1-year anniversary of the ice storm, so I did not get to go shopping with Mom last year on her birthday either.  I am sad now, but John has promised to entertain me for the rest of the day!  If you see Grandma Nell, tell her happy birthday!
