Ouch!

Filed under: Vacation — Tracy @ 5:21 pm

006Last Thursday we went to Nashville to see Dan Timenski at the Ryman Auditorium.  The concert was fantastic, but we had a little accident on the way down.  We were about an hour out of Troy when a baby deer ran out in front of Bart.  There was no time to stop, so the Suburban and deer collided at 65 mph.  There was nothing left that we could see of the deer except a little hair on Bart’s bumper.  This is what Bart’s Suburban looked like.  We drove the car to Mt. Vernon and had 2 repair guys look at it to make sure it was safe for the remainder of the drive.  They both told Bart that it was fine to drive, and the second guy taped the (working) lights back in.   So off we went to Nashville.  Along the way, John noticed that some of the tape was coming off, so he bought some duct tape at a gas station and repaired it.  (Is there anything that cannot be repaired with duct tape?)  When we arrived at the hotel, Bart put the car in Valet Parking, and John asked the attendant to be very careful with the duct tape on the light.   Of course the next day when we got the car, John had to ask that attendant (a different one) if he messed up the tape.  Thanks Bart for driving, and we are sorry about the Suburban!

Another Great Weekend

Filed under: Elijah, House, Josiah, Lily — Tracy @ 4:24 pm

This past weekend Jeff and Judy came over for a visit.  We always enjoy these weekend visits so much.  We play cards, eat, visit and just relax.  On Friday night, Ryan brought Elijah and Josiah out to camp.  They set up their tents by our firepit and got to do all the fun camping stuff without having to drive too far.  Sara and Lily came out for a while too, so she got to enjoy too.   We hung out with them for a while in the early evening too.  Lily and I went into our garage to get a drink, and there was a big black snake right by the fridge!  I grabbed Lily and ran out of the garage screaming for John.  I got everyone’s attention quickly, and they all came running.  Of course by the time John got there, the snake was behind the fridge.  He pulled out the fridge, and there was the snake.  When Sara saw it, she screamed and grabbed Lily.  She told me that she was not expecting it to be so big.  The boys loved seeing this snake up close.  Josiah did not want Grandpa to kill it, but Grandma insisted.  John carried the snake (on a garden rake) to the woods with all three kids following him.  Even Lily went along.  I don’t think she knew what was going on.  She just saw her brothers and Grandpa going, so she wanted to go too.  Just another exciting evening at the Howerter’s!

Happy 4th of July!

Filed under: Holiday — Tracy @ 6:14 pm

Yesterday was the 4th of July, and although it was a very rainy day, we had a good day.  John and I and Ryan and family went to John’s cousin’s house for a Howerter family reunion.  It was a lot of fun.  It rained the entire time that we were there, but they had a big pole barn, so we were able to stay dry inside.  Zeke and his brother and 2 sisters were there with many of their kids and grandkids.  Sara got to meet these folks for the first time, and the grandkids got to play with some of their cousins.  The resident cat had kittens, so Josiah and Elijah were very excited to get to hold them.  The kids were all very good, but they were dirty when we left.  They had climbed all over the equipment that was in the barn.  They had a great day, and so did I.
